RIMLS

Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences in the Netherlands is a leading European research school providing an outstanding research setting within the Radboud University Medical Center. The RIMLS focuses on basic science and its translation into pioneering treatments in the clinic. RIMLS innovations are advanced through technology platforms such as genomics, proteomics, and molecular imaging.

Department of Tumor Immunology

Research within the department Tumor immunology aims at a better understanding of our immune system using molecular, cell biological, and immunological techniques. An important activity of this department is the translation of basic research into preclinical models and clinical applications, including the development of novel immune-based strategies to treat cancer.

Towards Immuno-combination therapy of Cancer

Immunotherapy is gaining ground as a treatment modality for cancer, including cancer vaccines, mAb checkpoint blockade, and adoptive T-cell transfer therapies. Complete Tumor eradication is, however, hampered by an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). In this collaborative project, we aim to study novel immune-combination therapies that induce potent immune responses and create an immune permissive tumor microenvironment. The multidisciplinary work within the Adema group will involve cancer vaccine research and analysis of targeted therapies able to eliminate or reprogramming the tumor environment in preclinical animal models.

Specific requirements for this position:

The preferred PhD candidate will have a master degree in biomedical sciences (biology/immunology) or equivalent. In this project we will use a combination of immunological (FACS, Microscopy), molecular (arrays, qPCR) and biological techniques and read-outs mostly in the context of pre-clinical samples. Candidates with a background in Cancer-immunology/biology are especially invited to apply as well as those holding an article 9 certificate for working with experimental animals.
