The research challenge:
The CRC explores the nature of dynamic transitions of chromatin organization. It aims to understand principles and mechanisms that endow chromatin organization with diversity, flexibility and plasticity to respond to environmental, metabolic and developmental cues. CRC research strives for an integrated understanding of chromatin structure and function, involving identification and biochemical characterization of enzymes and metabolites, multi-omic analyses and imaging of cells in diverse physiological states and during ontogeny of model organisms. We are looking for:
Diverse and highly motivated candidates with strong backgrounds in biochemistry or related fields. Your qualifying degrees should reflect talent and good understanding of biological and biochemical topics, as well as practical experience in experimental lab work. Candidates should have excellent command of written and spoken English.
Cutting-edge expertise in chromatin research and in a wide variety of model organisms, enhanced through support of core facilities in mass spectrometry and bioinformatics. We provide a stimulating research environment in a vibrant chromatin community.
Doctoral researchers will be members in the Integrated Research Training Program (IRTG), a structured graduate program committed to supporting doctoral candidates in their research goals, in good scientific practice and in achieving optimal qualifications for future careers.
Doctoral degrees will be awarded through the Ludwig Maximillians University of Munich or the Technical University of Munich, two of the top-ranking universities in Germany. Research is concentrated in the greater Munich area, with groups on the Life Science Campus in the Biomedical Center Munich, the Gene Center, Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and the Helmholtz Zentrum in Großhadern and Neuherberg. The city of Munich and its environs offers excellent opportunities for recreation and cultural activities.
From the next funding period, PhD positions are open in projects A06, A20, A21, A30, A32, A33, A35 and an associated project. Salaries conform to TV-L E13 (65% for PhD positions).
